Running Groups for Men Using Intimate Partner Violence (IPV): Essential Skills for Groupwork Facilitators (6 days)
This is a highly experiential course for participants new to work with perpetrators. It will highlight the range of perpetrator programmes that are available that can be adopted by organisations.
More importantly this training covers a range of exercises facilitators can use and adapt for core sessions of any programme they choose to use. This covers:
- Checking in with the perpetrator at the start of sessions
- Assessing perpetrators
- Holding perpetrators accountable for their behaviour
- Analysing violent incidents
- Sexual respect
Please note: Respect does not prescribe one model of groupwork with perpetrators. Rather in this training we cover core elements that need to be included in every programme, and discuss theories behind existing programmes. This allows for some flexibility when it comes to an organisation deciding upon which model it will use (e.g. one with more CBT elements vs. more didactic models).
Our main focus here is to train you to be an excellent, confident facilitator who can motivate perpetrators to want to change, and who can be empathic yet challenge abusive behaviours and attitudes.
