Course aims:

An interactive, practical day on Adolescent to Parent Violence (APV), designed to raise awareness of the topic and provide participants with an opportunity to explore the dynamics of the issue as a profile of domestic abuse. Information will be provided on definitions, background theories, prevalence, risk factors, case studies and behaviour patterns. Consideration will be given of the problems of engaging with families around this issue and an overview of current service provision (models of work) will be provided.

Course aims: 

This one day course is for practitioners who come into contact with perpetrators – such as social workers, Cafcass officers, health workers, substance misuse workers, relationship counsellors or people working mainly with victims but wanting to understand more about perpetrators. You will learn about current research and practice developments, techniques to help engagement and risk assessment and how to make effective referrals to specialist domestic violence programmes.

Working with Male Victims of Domestic Abuse (1-day course)

Course aims:

This one-day course will provide knowledge about the experiences of male victims of domestic violence including how these may differ from women’s experiences and information about the nature, scale and incidence of intimate partner violence against men. Participants will practice using skills in responding appropriately to male victims and will identify specific experiences and difficulties faced by specific groups of male victims such as gay men or men from specific ethnic backgrounds. Participants will get a hard copy of Respect’s Toolkit for work with male victims of domestic violence.

Running Groups with Men using Intimate Partner Violence: Essential Skills for Group Work Facilitators (6-day course) *

Course aims:

This 6-day course is for practitioners want to improve their skills. It is also suitable for those working with partner/ex-partners, to find out what is involved in perpetrator work.

Risk Assessment (2 day course) *

Course aims:

A two-day course specifically designed for practitioners working in domestic violence perpetrator programmes, with perpetrators or victims. The course includes learning about different types of risk factors for perpetrators, how to assess the significance of these, using the Respect risk identification tool, risk management in DVPPs and dealing with the implications. Case studies allow participants to practice using the information.

Individual work with Perpetrators of Domestic Abuse (4 days)

This 4-day training course equips delegates with the understanding and skills necessary to facilitate the Respect Individual Work Programme – which is a domestic abuse perpetrator programme designed to be delivered 1-1 over 20 core sessions, plus a range of supplementary sessions selected to fit the individual client. The training is participatory and practical, with a strong focus on working interactively with the programme materials
