Our events are practical and accessible, underpinning our three core strands of work: perpetrators of domestic violence, male victims of domestic violence and young people’s violence in close relationship; and support our ethos of high quality and safe service provision.

Course Overview

This course is designed for organisation who have set up, or are in the process of setting up, a one-to-one intervention programme for domestic violence and abuse perpetrators. The course explores the difference between group and individual work, when individual work might be more effective, and how to use the Respect Individual Work Programme with perpetrators of domestic violence and abuse. The training is participatory and practical, with a strong focus on working interactively with the programme materials.

What will I learn?

Participants will gain the knowledge and skills they need to facilitate the Respect Individual Work Programme. This course will help participants to:

  • Learn why the individual programme was developed, what settings it is designed for, and what agency structures are necessary to support safe practice
  • Understand the challenges related working one-to-one with perpetrators of domestic violence
  • Understand the balance between programme fidelity and working responsively with individual issues
  • Learn how to analyse specific incidents of abusive behaviour
  • Practice using techniques which tackle denial, minimisation and externalisation of responsibility by the perpetrator
  • Learn to how to help clients identify and practice a broad spectrum of non-abusive behaviours using a range of exercises
